Al Pacino, who was born Alfredo James Pacino on April 25, 1940, in East Harlem, Manhattan, New York City, came from a family of suffering and resilience. Rose and Salvatore Pacino, his Sicilian Italian-American parents, raised him as their only child. Unfortunately, when he was two years old, his parents split.

Following their divorce, Al and his mother relocated to the South Bronx to live with Kate and James Gerardi, who had arrived from Corleone, Italy. Meanwhile, Al’s father moved to California and started a business as an insurance salesman and restaurateur.
