Jonathan Foster Obituary The Brutal Murder Of A 12-Year-Old Kid

Publish date: 2024-06-24

Jonathan’s family went through a terrible phase when their 12-year-old son was brutally murdered.

The murder case was featured in Investigation Discovery’s ‘The Interrogator: Missing on Christmas Eve,’ where the show depicted the gruesome murder and abduction of Jonathan Foster.

What happened with Jonathan Foster? Who killed him?

Jonathan’s childhood was tumultuous, with his parents, Angela Davis and Richard Foster, splitting up when he was young, and he lived with his uncle, Glenn Scrimsher, in Missouri for four years.

His uncle believed his mother, Angela, was not fit to bring up a child on her own due to her narcotics, drugs, and alcohol issues.

Jonathan returned to Texas to live with his grandmother in 2009, against his uncle’s wishes and later moved in with his mother.

In 2010, 12-year-old Jonathan Foster was abducted from his Houston apartment and murdered.

His burnt body was found four days later, wrapped in a carpet and tied up with twine, in a ditch five miles away from his residence.

He was alone in the apartment on Christmas Eve when he went missing.

The cause of death could not be determined due to the severity of the burns. Initially, the police suspected Jonathan had run away, but an Amber Alert was eventually issued.

Angela received a suspicious phone call just before she reached the apartment, and Jonathan was gone when she arrived.

At first, his parents, Angela and David, claimed that Jonathan was with a babysitter, but they later said he was alone in the apartment.

The conflicting accounts caused delays in the investigation, and the police could not find a suspect until they identified Nelson from the surveillance footage.

Surveillance camera footage gave them a breakthrough.

The video showed a woman dumping a body from a silver pickup truck, and the police identified the person as Mona Yvette Nelson, an acquaintance of the family

Who killed Jonathan Foster? Where is the killer now?

Nelson was a former boxer and a welder, and the police found welding tools and twine identical to those used to tie up Jonathan when they searched her house and car.

A neighbor also confirmed seeing her on the day of the crime when Jonathan’s family frantically searched for him. Nelson was arrested and charged with capital murder.

During her trial, Nelson claimed that Jonathan’s stepfather, David, asked her to dispose of a full trash can and that she did not know what was inside.

However, David was cleared of any wrongdoing based on phone call records and surveillance video that placed him at a local bar during the time period of the crime.

Nelson was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

She refused to testify and spoke in her defense only after the judgment was pronounced, stating, “I’m innocent, and I maintain my innocence. I wouldn’t harm anybody.”

According to the official records, Nelson is currently imprisoned at Gatesville Correctional Facility.

She applied for an appeal in 2015 but was denied by a three-judge panel of the Fourth District Texas Court of Appeals.

She is currently in the process of filing a writ of habeas corpus at the State Court to ascertain her innocence.

Jonathan’s tragic death left his family devastated, and his mother set up a charity in his name to help other children in need.

The case remains one of the most heinous crimes in Houston’s history, and Nelson’s conviction brought some closure to Jonathan’s family and the community.
