Miley Cyrus turns Santa Baby into feminist anthem by singing new lyrics in a mini-skirt on TV
The 26-year-old appeared on the December 20 episode of the “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and updated the lyrics to the 1953 Christmas classic to give it a feminist character more in accordance to our times.
The sketch, which was shared on the TV show’s YouTube account in its entirety, mocks a typical Christmas special and has Cyrus complaining about the original lyrics to the song at “backstage.”
A very stressed Jimmy Fallon gives Cyrus his approval to alter the lyrics of the song before she walks into the set and changes the tune to make it less focused on the material and talking about independent, empowered women.
As Cyrus’ performance progresses, Fallon and British musician Mark Ronson enter the scene to add much comedy to the sketch providing hilarious reactions to Cyrus’ defiance of a scripted patriarchal holiday.

Cyrus sang about how she wasn’t interested in receiving “nothing that comes in a box,” stating that she can buy her own things with the money she earned from her work alone.
The “Nothing Breaks Like A Heart” singer also referenced sexual harassment in times of the #MeToo movement, saying that she would “love” to feel safe in her work environment.
She went on to say that “a girl’s best friend is equal pay,” making a point of the right to financial independence for women to take the wheels of their own lives.

Ronson, who is featured in the sketch, has been collaborating with Cyrus recently, with the two working together in another cover of John Lennon’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” that was released on December 14.
It is not the first time when Fallon sings together with Cyrus, for back in October 2017, the two starred in an epic performance on Fallon’s late night show channeling Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton with a nostalgic rendition of “Islands in the Stream.”
